The first place was taken by The Team Europe, which consisted of representatives from different European countries. Third place was taken by representatives of Armenia.

The Polish team, called "Spice Gears", consisted of six students: Magdalena Wieczorek, Aleksandra Jarzyna, Bartłomiej Wierzchowiak, Mateusz Kapica, Dominik Ściborek and Szymon Szostak. Magdalena Wieczorek from the General School Complex no. 2 in Kraśnik was a team lider, who led “Spice Gears” to victory.

Before the competition students created a robot which was drawing out colorful balls symbolizing pollution and then was segregating them according to a specific order. Each team was given by the organizer the same set of parts to build a robot.

Winning a silver medal at the Olympics in Washington can be perceived as a confirmation of an extensive knowledge and technological skills of the students from Kraśnik who a few months earlier  were the only team from Eastern Europe to participate in the First Robotics Competition in Canada. Szymon Szostak, the team leader at that time, was awarded a prestigious Dean’s List Award.

Sławomir Sosnowski, the Marshal of the Lubelskie Voivodeship

I am honoured that for two years we have been having an opportunity to support this innovative team. The Team  has a potential that we cannot waste. Today these young people on the basis of their success create and promote the image of our region on the international level. I am strongly convinced that we have a lot of potential to use in terms of facilitating the development of such innovative initiatives. Together with the management of the voivodeship I will be supporting such actions at every stage.

The First Global Challenge Olympics, held July 16-18 in Washington, was organized for the first time. The main idea of the competition is to develop interests and knowledge in the field of new technologies, creativity and innovation.
